"ATHENE/ATHENA=MINERVA"

Since mythology is somewhat broad and have many characters, i will be posting two gods per post.

“The real destroyer of the liberties of the people is he who spreads among them bounties, donations and benefits. – Plutarch”

Athena is the Greek virgin goddess of reason, intelligent activity, arts and literature. Athena is the daughter of Zeus. She sprang full grown in armour from his forehead, thus has no mother. She is fierce and brave in battle but, only wars to define the state and home from outside enemies. She is the goddess of the city, handicrafts, and agriculture. She invented the bridle, which permitted man to tame horses, the trumpet, the flute, the pot, the rake, the plow, the yoke, the ship, and the chariot. She is the embodiment of wisdom, reason, and purity. She was Zeus's favorite child and was allowed to use his weapons including his thunderbolt. Her favorite city is Athens. Her tree is the olive. The owl is her bird. She is a virgin goddess.

Athene (or Athena) was the great Olympian goddess of wise counsel, war, and the defence of towns, heroic endeavour, weaving, pottery and other crafts. She was depicted crowned with a crested helm, armed with shield and spear, and wearing the snake-trimmed aegis cloak wrapped around her breast and arm, adorned with the monstrous head of the Gorgon.

"IAPETUS"

Since mythology is somewhat broad and have many characters, i will be posting two gods per post.

“I am indebted to my father for living, but to my teacher for living well. - Alexander the Great”

Iapetos (or Iapetus) was one of the Titan gods, sons of Ouranos (Heaven) and Gaia (Earth). Led by Kronos, Iapetos and his brothers conspired against their father, preparing an ambush for him as he descended to lie with Earth. Krios, Koios, Hyperion and Iapetos were posted at the four corners of the world where they seized hold of the Sky-god and held him fast, while Kronos, hidden in the centre, castrated him with a sickle.

In this myth, Iapetos and the three brothers represent the four cosmic pillars which appear in Near-Eastern cosmogonies holding heaven and earth apart. Iapetos himself was no doubt the pillar of the west, a position which was later and more obviously held by his son Atlas.

Iapetos "the piercer" may also have been regarded as the Titan god of the mortal life-span. Indeed, his sons Prometheus and Epimetheus were represented as the creators of mankind and other mortal creatures.

The Titanes were eventually deposed by Zeus and cast into the pit of Tartaros. Hesiod describes this as a void lying beneath the foundations of the cosmos, where earth, sea and sky all have their roots. Here the Titanes shift in cosmological terms from being holders of heaven to bearers of the entire cosmos. According to Pindar and Aeschylus (in his lost play Prometheus Unbound) the Titanes were eventually released from the pit through the clemency of Zeus.

Iapetus was the father of Prometheus, Epimetheus, and Atlas.

"LETO"

Since mythology is somewhat broad and have many characters, i will be posting two gods per post.

“There is nothing permanent except change. – Heraclitus”

Leto was one of the female Titanes, a bride of Zeus, and the mother of the twin gods Apollon and Artemis. She was the goddess of motherhood and with her children, a protectress of the young. Her name and iconography suggest she was also a goddess of modesty and womanly demure. Like her sister Asteria she may also have been a goddess of the night, or alternatively of the light of day.

When Leto was pregant with the twins she was pursued relentlessly by the goddess Hera, who drove her from land to land preventing her from finding a place to rest and give birth. The floating island of Delos eventually provided her with refuge. Later when she was later traveling to Delphoi, the giant Tityos attempted to abduct her, but Apollon intervened and slew him with arrows.

"DEMETER=CERES"

Since mythology is somewhat broad and have many characters, i will be posting two gods per post.

“You don't develop courage by being happy in your relationships every day. You develop it by surviving difficult times and challenging adversity. – Epicurus”

Demeter is the goddess of corn, grain, and the harvest. She is the daughter of Cronus and Rhea. It is Demeter that makes the crops grow each year. The first loaf of bread from the harvest is sacrificed to her. Demeter is the goddess of the earth, of agriculture, and of fertility in general. Sacred to her are livestock and agricultural products, poppy, narcissus and the crane.

Demeter is intimately associated with the seasons. Her daughter Persephone was abducted by Hades to be his wife in the underworld. In her anger at her daughter's loss Demeter laid a curse on the world that caused plants to wither and die, the land became desolate. Zeus became alarmed and sought Persephone's return. However, because she had eaten while in the underworld Hades had a claim on her. Therefore, it was decreed that Persephone would spend four months each year in the underworld. During these months Demeter grieves her daughters absence, and withdraws her gifts from the world, creating winter. Her return brought the spring.

Demeter is also known for founding the Eleusinian Mysteries. These were huge festivals held every five years. They were important events for many centuries. Yet, little is known of them as those attending were sworn to secrecy. The central tenant seems to have been that just as grain returns every spring after its harvest and wintery death, so too the human soul could be reborn after the death of the body.

Demeter was the great Olympian goddess of agriculture, grain, and bread, the prime sustenance of mankind. She also presided over the foremost of the Mystery Cults which promised its initiates the path to a blessed afterlife. Demeter was depicted as a mature woman, often crowned and holding sheafs of wheat and and a torch.

"HERA=JUNO"

Since mythology is somewhat broad and have many characters, i will be posting two gods per post.

“Anybody can become angry - that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way - that is not within everybody's power and is not easy. – Aristotle”

Hera is Zeus wife and sister. She was raised by the Titans Ocean and Tethys. She is the supreme goddess, goddess of marriage and childbirth and takes special care of married women.

Hera's marriage was founded in strife with Zeus and continued in strife. Zeus courted her unsuccessfully. He then turned to trickery, changing himself into disheveled cuckoo. Hera feeling sorry for the bird held it to her breast to warm it. Zeus then resumed his normal form and taking advantage of the surprise he gained, raped her. She then married him to cover her shame.

Once when Zeus was being particularly overbearing to the other gods, Hera convinced them to join in a revolt. Her part in the revolt was to drug Zeus, and in this she was successful. The gods then bound the sleeping Zeus to a couch taking care to tie many knots. This done they began to quarrel over the next step. Briareus overheard the arguments. Still full of gratitude to Zeus, Briareus slipped in and was able to quickly untie the many knots. Zeus sprang from the couch and gripped up his thunderbolt. The gods fell to their knees begging and pleading for mercy. He seized Hera and hung her from the sky with gold chains. She wept in pain all night but, none of the others dared to interfere. Her weeping kept Zeus up and the next morning he agreed to release her if she would swear never to rebel again. She had little choice but, to agree. While she never again rebelled, she often intrigued against Zeus's plans and she was often able to outwit him.

Most stories concerning Hera have to do with her jealous revenge for Zeus's infidelities. Her sacred animals are the cow and the peacock. Her favorite city is Argos.

Hera was the Olympian queen of the gods and the goddess of women and marriage. She was also a goddess of the sky and starry heavens. She was usually depicted as a beautiful woman wearing a crown and holding a royal, lotus-tipped staff. Sometimes she held a royal lion or had a cuckoo or hawk as her familiar.

"ZEUS=JUPITER/JOVE"

Since mythology is somewhat broad and have many characters, i will be posting two gods per post.

“Good people do not need laws to tell them to act responsibly, while bad people will find a way around the laws. – Plato”

Zeus was the god of the sky and ruler of the Olympian gods. Zeus overthrew his Father Cronus. He then drew lots with his brothers Poseidon and Hades. Zeus won the draw and became the supreme ruler of the gods. He is lord of the sky, the rain god. His weapon is a thunderbolt which he hurls at those who displease him. He is married to Hera but, is famous for his many affairs. He is also known to punish those that lie or break oaths. He was the rain god, and the cloud gatherer, who wielded the terrible thunderbolt. His breastplate was the aegis, his bird the eagle, his tree the oak. He is represented as the god of justice and mercy, the protector of the weak, and the punisher of the wicked.

Zeus was the king of the gods, the god of sky and weather, law, order and fate. He was depicted as a regal man, mature with sturdy figure and dark beard. His usual attributes were a lightning bolt, royal scepter and eagle.

"POSEIDON=NEPTUNE"

Since mythology is somewhat broad and have many characters, i will be posting two gods per post.

“One thing I know, that I know nothing. This is the source of my wisdom. – Socrates”

God of the sea, protector of all waters. Poseidon is the brother of Zeus. After the overthow of their Father Cronus he drew lots with Zeus and Hades, another brother, for shares of the world. His prize was to become lord of the sea. He was widely worshiped by seamen. He married Amphitrite, a granddaughter of the Titan Oceanus.

At one point he desired Demeter. To put him off Demeter asked him to make the most beautiful animal that the world had ever seen. So to impress her Poseidon created the first horse. In some accounts his first attempts were unsucessful and created a varity of other animals in his quest. By the time the horse was created his passion for Demeter had cooled.

His weapon is a trident, which can shake the earth, and shatter any object. He is second only to Zeus in power amongst the gods. He has a difficult quarrelsome personality. He was greedy. He had a series of disputes with other gods when he tried to take over their cities.

POSEIDON was the great Olympian god of the sea, rivers, flood and drought, earthquakes, and horses. He was depicted as a mature man of sturdy build with a dark beard, and holding a trident.

"DISCONNECTED"

Ring… ring… ring…

BOY :                                                                                                     GIRL:

(1)Don’t know what to say now.
(1)Don’t know where to start.

It’s funny that you’re calling me tonight,(9)
and, yes, I’ve dreamt of you too.(9)

…silence…

Here I am alone in this empty room,(10)
and let my mind just fly you to the end.(10)

…silence…

It’s amazing how you can speak right to my heart.(12)
Without saying a word you can light up the dark.(12)

…silence…

(10)I could still recall, those memories of you,
(10)the Joy and all your laughter.

It’s really good to hear your voice saying my name.(9)
It sounds so sweet.(9)

(6)I wanna make you smile whenever you’re sad,
(6)carry you around when your arthritis is bad.

(7)And I’d give up forever to touch you,
(7)cause I know that you feel me somehow.

(1) And then there’s times you look at me,
(1)as though I’m all that you can see.

…silence…

All night, hearing voices telling me, that I should get some sleep (11)
because tomorrow might be good for something.(11)

…silence…

I was once like you are now, and I know that its not easy,(4)
to be calm when you’ve found something going on.(4)

(4)How can I try to explain, when I do (s)he turns away again.
(4)It’s always been the same, same old story.

…silence…

(8)I know a place where we can hide out,
(8)and turn our hearts inside out.

(8) Let me take you there.
(8)I wanna take you there.

(6)I could be the man who grows old with you.
(6)I wanna grow old with you.

…silence…

The touch of your hand says you’ll catch me wherever I fall.(12)
You say it best, when you say nothing at all.(12)

…silence…

Even if you want to go alone(3)
I will be waiting when you’re coming home.(3)

You know I’d fight for you,(1)
but how I can fight someone who isn’t even there.(1)

I’m not crazy, I’m just a little impaired.(11)
I know, right now you don’t care.(11)

And I don’t want the world to see me,(7)
cause I don’t think that they’d understand.(7)

…silence…

(2)Now that you’ve gone away, You seem so close
(2)but you’re miles and miles away.

(5)Please come back.
(5)You’re the only one who’s ever loved me.

(2)Wish that I had more of this borrowed time.
(2)If only it would last a lifetime.

…silence…

But before I go I just got to let you know(5)
You’re the only one who can make me happy again.(5)

"HADES/DIS=PLUTO"

Since mythology is somewhat broad and have many characters, i will be posting two gods per post.

"Nothing shall part us in our love till Thanatos (Death) at his appointed hour removed us from the light of day. - Apollonius of Rhodes”

Haides (Aides, Aidoneus, or Hades) was the King of the Underworld, the god of death and the dead. He presided over funeral rites and defended the right of the dead to due burial. Haides was also the god of the hidden wealth of the earth, from the fertile soil with nourished the seed-grain, to the mined wealth of gold, silver and other metals.

Hades was devoured by Kronos as soon as he was born, along with four of his siblings. Zeus later caused the Titan to disgorge them, and together they drove the Titan gods from heaven and locked them away in the pit of Tartaros. When the three victorious brothers then drew lots for the division of the cosmos, Hades received the third portion, the dark dismal realm of the underworld, as his domain.

Hades desired a bride and petitioned his brother Zeus to grant him one of his daughters. The god offered him Persephone, the daughter of Demeter. However, knowing that the goddess would resist the marriage, he assented to the forceful abduction of the girl. When Demeter learned of this, she was furious and caused a great dearth to fall upon the earth until her daughter was returned. Zeus was forced to concede lest mankind perish, and the girl was fetched forth from the underworld. However, since she had tasted of the pomegranate seed, she was forced to return to him for a portion of each year.

Haides was depicted as a dark-bearded, regal god. He was depicted as either Aidoneus, enthroned in the underworld, holding a bird-tipped sceptre, or as Plouton, the giver of wealth, pouring fertility from a cornucopia. The Romans named him Dis, or Pluto, the Latin form of his Greek title Plouton, "the Lord of Riches."

Hades is a greedy god who is greatly concerned with increasing his subjects. He is the King of the dead but, death itself is another god, Thanatos.

"HESTIA"

Since mythology is somewhat broad and have many characters, i will be posting two gods per post.

"We villains are a very select group indeed. In the very desperation of our hate rests our strength. – Cyclops”

Hestia was the virgin goddess of the hearth (both private and municipal) and the home. As the goddess of the family hearth she also presided over the cooking of bread and the preparation of the family meal. Hestia was also the goddess of the sacrificial flame and received a share of every sacrifice to the gods. The cooking of the communal feast of sacrificial meat was naturally a part of her domain.

In myth Hestia was the first born child of Kronos and Rhea who was swallowed by her father at birth. Zeus later forced the old Titan to disgorge Hestia and her siblings. As the first to be swallowed she was also the last to be disgorged, and so was named as both the eldest and youngest of the six Kronides. When the gods
Apollon and Poseidon sought for her hand in marriage, Hestia refused and asked Zeus to let her remain an eternal virgin. He agreed and she took her place at his royal hearth.

Hestia was depicted in Athenian vase painting as a modestly veiled woman sometimes holding a flowered branch (of a chaste tree ?). In classical sculpture she was also veiled, with a kettle as her attribute.

Hestia, Greek Goddess of the sacred fire, was once known as "Chief of the Goddesses" and "Hestia, First and Last". She was the most influential and widely revered of the Greek goddesses.

"OCEANUS/OKEANOS"

Since mythology is somewhat broad and have many characters, i will be posting two gods per post.

"Apollo, sacred guard of earth's true core, Whence first came frenzied, wild prophetic word... - Cicero”

Okeanos, or Oceanus, was the Titan god or Protogenos (primeval deity) of the great earth-encircling river Okeanos, the font of all the earth's fresh-water: including rivers, wells, springs and rain-clouds. Okeanos was also the god who regulated the rising and setting of the heavenly bodies which were believed to emerge and descend into his watery realm at the ends of the earth. Okeanos' wife was Tethys, the nurse, who was probably thought to distribute his water to the earth via subterranean caverns. Their children were the Potamoi or River-Gods and Okeanides, nymphs of springs and fountains. Unlike his brother Titanes, Okeanos neither participated in the castration of Ouranos nor joined the battle against the younger Olympian gods. He was probably identical to Ophion, an elder Titan in the Orphic myths who ruled heaven briefly before being wrestled and cast into the Ocean stream by Kronos.

Okeanos was depicted in ancient Greek vase painting as a bull-horned god with the tail of a serpentine fish in place of legs, similar to his river-god sons. His usual attributes were a fish and serpent. In the Hellenistic era, Okeanos was redefined as the god of the newly accessible Atlantic and Indian Oceans, and the old cosmological idea of a great, earth-encircling, fresh-water stream was discarded. In mosaic art he therefore appears simply as a sea-god or the sea personified, with crab-claw horns, and for attributes, a serpent, oar and school of fish. His wife Tethys, shown seated beside him, had wings on her brow, in the role of mother of rain-clouds.

Oceanus is the unending stream of water encircling the world. Together with his wife Tethys produced the rivers and the three thousand ocean nymphs.

"TETHYS"

Since mythology is somewhat broad and have many characters, i will be posting two gods per post.

"BY ALL MEANS, GET MARRIED: IF YOU FIND A GOOD WIFE, YOU'LL BE HAPPY; IF NOT YOU'LL BE A PHILOSOPHER. - SOCRATES"

Tethys was the Titan goddess of the sources fresh water which nourished the earth. She was the wife of Okeanos, the earth-encircling, fresh-water stream, and the mother of the Potamoi (Rivers), Okeanides (Springs, Streams & Fountains) and Nephelai (Clouds). Tethys was imagined feeding her children's streams by drawing water from Okeanos through subterranean aquifers. Her name was derived from the Greek word têthê, "the nurse" or "grandmother."

In Greek vase painting Tethys appears as an attributeless woman in the company of Eileithyia, the goddess of childbirth, and her fish-tailed husband Okeanos. In mosaic art she appears with a small pair of wings decorating her brow, probably in her role as the mother of rain-couds.

Tethys was likely identified with the Titanis Eurynome, one-time Queen of Heaven, who was cast into the Ocean-stream along with her husband Ophion by Kronos. She was probably also connected with the Protogenos Thesis (Mother Creation) who appears in the Orphic cosmogony. Tethys was later represented by poets as the sea personified, and so equated with Thalassa.

Tethys is the wife of Oceanus. Together they produced the rivers and the three thousand ocean nymphs.

"COEUS=KOIOS"

Since mythology is somewhat broad and have many characters, i will be posting two gods per post.

“Myth is an attempt to narrate a whole human experience, of which the purpose is too deep, going too deep in the blood and soul, for mental explanation or description. - D. H. Lawrence”

Coeus was one of the Titan gods, sons of Uranus and Gaea. He and his brothers conspired against their father, laying an ambush for him as he descended to lie with Earth. Four of the siblings were posted at the corners of the world, where they seized hold of him and held him fast, while Cronus castrated him with a sickle.

In this myth the brothers apparently personified the great pillars which occur in near-Eastern cosmologies holding heaven and earth apart, or sometimes the whole cosmos aloft. Koios' alternate name, Polos ("of the northern pole"), suggests he was the Titan of the pillar of the north. His brothers Hyperion, Iapetos, and Krios, on the other hand, presided over the west, east, and south respectively. Koios, as god of the axis of heaven around which the constellations revolved, was probably also a god of heavenly oracles, just as his wife Phoibe presided over the oracles of the axis of earth Delphi,--a common inherited by their grandson Apollon.

Titan of Intelligence. Father of Leto.

"PHOEBE/SELENE=LUNA"

Since mythology is somewhat broad and have many characters, i will be posting two gods per post.

“Time, which sees all things, has found you out. - Sophocles Oedipus The King”

In Greek mythology "radiant" Phoebe, was one of the original Titans, who were one set of sons and daughters of Uranus and Gaea. She was traditionally associated with the moon. Her consort was her brother Coeus, with whom she had two daughters, Leto, who bore Artemis and Apollo, and Asteria, a star-goddess who bore an only daughter Hecate.

Phoebe was the Titan goddess of the "bright" intellect, wife of Coeus, "the inquirer." She was the third goddess to hold the Oracle of Delphoi. Phoebe's name was associated with the Greek words phoibos, "bright" or "radiant," phoibaô "to purify" and phoibazô "to give prophesy."

Titan of the Moon. Mother of Leto.

"CRONUS=SATURN"

Since mythology is somewhat broad and have many characters, i will be posting two gods per post.

“I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now?  - John Lennon”

Cronus was the son of Uranus and Gaea, and in a theme that would later be repeated in Greek literature, Cronus would take action to save his siblings. In doing so he would become the new king of the gods. It is from his own union with his wife, Rhea, that the Olympians would eventually be born. This was still a time only for gods, but the age of man was growing ever closer.

The reign of Cronus began with a sickle in his hand, which he used to castrate his father, Uranus, dooming the Titans to a tragic end. He then went on to free his brothers and sisters from his mother’s womb and ushered in a new age, with himself as their king and his sister Rhea as their queen.

The age of man had yet to come, and with little else to worry himself with Cronus ushered in a new pantheon of gods with his newly found wife. However, one fear plagued his existence, much as it would anyone who had absconded a throne of power by devious means. It was only a matter of time before one of his own children would do the same to him. Unwilling to sacrifice his love for power, Cronus devoured his children to permanently secure his seat of power. However, his wife Rhea wanted nothing of this.

To ensure his safety, Cronus ate each of the children as they were born. This worked until Rhea, unhappy at the loss of her children, tricked Cronus into swallowing a rock, instead of Zeus. When he grew up Zeus would revolt against Cronus and the other Titans, defeat them, and banish them to Tartarus in the underworld.

Cronus managed to escape to Italy, where he ruled as Saturn. The period of his rule was said to be a golden age on earth, honored by the Saturnalia feast.

"RHEA = OPS"

Since mythology is somewhat broad and have many characters, i will be posting two gods per post.

"ZEUS SPLIT THE MAN AND WOMAN APART, FEARING ITS POWER, BUT OBLIGATING THE MAN AND WOMAN ON AN EVERLASTING QUEST TO FIND THEIR COUNTERPART. -ANONYMOUS"

Rhea was the Titanis mother of the gods, and a goddess of female fertility, motherhood, and generation. Her name means "flow" and "ease." As the wife of Kronos (Time), she represented the eternal flow of time and generations ; as the great Mother (Meter Megale), the "flow" was menstrual blood, birth waters, and milk. She was also a goddess of comfort and ease, a blessing reflected in the common Homeric phrase "the gods who live at their ease (rhea)."

In myth, Rhea was the wife of the Titan Kronos and Queen of heaven. When her husband heard a prophecy that he would be deposed by one of his children, he took to swallowing each of them as soon as they were born. But Rhea bore her youngest, Zeus, in secret and hid him away in a cave in Krete guarded by shield-clashing Kouretes. In his stead she presented Kronos with a stone wrapped in swaddling clothes which he promptly devoured.

Rhea was closely identified with the Anatolian mother-goddess Kybele. They were both depicted as matronly women, usually wearing a turret crown, and attended by lions.

Rhea is the daughter of the primeval forces, Uranus (sky), and Gaea (Earth). Rhea is the wife of her brother Cronus and is called the mother of the gods because she gave birth to the Olympians, Demeter, Hades, Hera, Hestia, Poseidon and Zeus.

"URANUS = CAELUS"

Since mythology is somewhat broad and have many characters, i will be posting two gods per post.

"But, strictly speaking, this mythology was no essential part of ancient religion, for it had no sacred sanction and no binding force on the worshippers. - William Robertson Smith”

Uranus was born either of Chaos or the goddess Gaea, depending on what ancient text you decide to consult. Known as Father Sky, he was the father of all but Gaea (the Earth mother), Pontus (god of the sea), and Ourea (god of the mountains),  and in tragic Greek fashion, he was a tyrannical father capable of unspeakable acts.

Gaea was Uranus’s only love, and it is said that he came every night to cover the Earth and mate with her. While he loved Gaea, he had nothing but scorn for the children she bore him: six sons and six daughters (known as the Titans), three one-hundred-armed giants knows as the Hecatonchires, and the one-eyed giants known as the Cyclopes.

The youngest of Gaea’s children would feel Uranus’s wrath when he imprisoned them in Tartarus, an abysmal pit of despair in the underworld. Angered by the mistreatment of her loved ones, Gaea made a great flint-bladed sickle and asked her sons to castrate their father. Cronus, the bravest of the children, did as his mother asked and threw his father’s testicles into the sea. The blood that fell to the Earth spawned the Giants, and Aphrodite was formed from what fell into the sea.

This would signify the end of Uranus’s reign and would usher in an age where Cronus would rule.

Uranus is the sky god and first ruler. He is the son of Gaea, who created him without help. He then became the husband of Gaea and together they had many offspring, including twelve of the Titans.

His rule ended when when Cronus, encouraged by Gaea, castrated him. He either died from the wound or withdrew from earth.

"GAEA/TERRA = TELLUS"

Since mythology is somewhat broad and have many characters, i will be posting two gods per post.

"All your Western theologies, the whole mythology of them, are based on the concept of God as a senile delinquent. - Tennessee Williams"

Known to the Greeks as Gaea and to the Romans as Terra, this Goddess gave life to all of the other gods that would follow. Her role was that of the Earth Mother, which we now know today as Mother Nature, and she was one of the Great Titans who was once thought to have held dominion over the universe.

Formed from Chaos (air), the gap that originally separated the Heavens from the Earth, this goddess would go on to give rise to all of the other gods that would follow. One of the first to be brought forth would be her son,Uranus, god of the sky, and from their union would spring forth most of the other gods. While we might be uncomfortable with the idea of a mother and a son having children together, the ancient gods held no such reservations, creating some very interesting and weird unions in their time.

Uranus would not be the only son born without the aid of a father. Pontus, god of the sea, and Ourea, god of the mountains, were born the same way.

Gaea is the Earth goddess. She mated with her son Uranus to produce the remaining Titans. Gaea seems to have started as a neolithic earth-mother worshiped before the Indo-European invasion that eventually lead to the Hellinistic civilization.

"A.R. YOU TO THE MAX"

advices and comfort they offer against blight...
they put you in haste or slow you down like the ACOLYTE...
these are buddies who desires you to be blessed...
they even try to heal your wounds and let you have a rest...

the wind may bring gusts of obstacles and fire may burn life's pages...
but only water can freeze damaging problems similar to those of wise MAGES...
with camaraderie, everything can be magical...
from elements of self confidence towards spiritual...

frequently they deal with your needs and wants..
you may not notice you're trading life and experience as of the MERCHANTS...
while we drag along our baggage and may ask for a spare...
we all want a high self-worth and hopes all to be fair...

also they are able to dodge deception that ends in grief...
steal secrets and hide it perfectly, more like a THIEF...
some spy on you but only to check your safety...
they even counter the poisons that destroy your personality...

they are allies and won't leave you as of a guardian...
to them you can give your loyalty like a valiant SWORDSMAN...
they can break bones if attacked and provoked...
can deal deadly bashes that leaves you stunned and stroked...

they do this so you alone won't wander...
are keen observer despite of proximity similar to an ARCHER...
aims to know your character and together they assemble...
an extension of oneself is what they resemble...

"TRANSFORMER AND TRANSITION"

change is permanent as they say...
from formats and systems they sway...
like the environment and weather...
people, too, adjust for the worse or better...

from hobbies into career...
some set aside, others adhere...
from dreams towards reality...
leaving the comfort zone for goals even though deadly...

as life goes on through thick and thin...
please do take note of lessons as time won't backspin...
those lessons will act as your guide...
to embrace life's changes stretching your arms wide...

one's perspective might stay intact or maybe infected by other's belief...
just remember to be humble and open-minded for you to appreciate its relief...
tweaking from negative to positive is not and easy task...
however, it penetrates others and your own mask...

if those transformers shift from offense to defense...
and even action words have their transitive tense...
then who are we, beings of action, to be stuck...
in what most pessimists coin as having bad luck...

"MYTHS FOR JULY"

after all that brainstorming an idea hunting, i will be posting topics regarding mythology. this include the concern about Greek mythology but not limited only to it. this month's topic, i guess, needs more research than that of the last month's. i'll try to make it more interesting as much as possible...

“A fiction about soft or easy deaths is part of the mythology of most diseases that are not considered shameful or demeaning. - Susan Sontag”

PA:
personally, i know a few more people who seemed to be interested in mythology. by the way, greek mythology was a part of the old Greek's belief. they have their own interpretation and faith vis-à-vis how the world started. aside from religion, these beliefs also influence their arts. as i discuss topics, i hope u learn alongside with me. ^_^ researches are from different sources.

CI:
Greek mythology is the body of myths and legends belonging to the ancient Greeks concerning their gods and heroes, the nature of the world, and the origins and significance of their own cult and ritual practices. They were a part of religion in ancient Greece. Modern scholars refer to the myths and study them in an attempt to throw light on the religious and political institutions of Ancient Greece, its civilization, and to gain understanding of the nature of myth-making itself.

Greek mythology is embodied explicitly in a large collection of narratives and implicitly in Greek representational arts, such as vase-paintings and votive gifts. Greek myth attempts to explain the origins of the world and details the lives and adventures of a wide variety of gods, goddesses, heroes, heroines, and mythological creatures. These accounts initially were disseminated in an oral-poetic tradition; today the Greek myths are known primarily from Greek literature.

The oldest known Greek literary sources, the epic poems Iliad and Odyssey, focus on events surrounding the Trojan War. Two poems by Homer's near contemporary Hesiod, the Theogony and the Works and Days, contain accounts of the genesis of the world, the succession of divine rulers, the succession of human ages, the origin of human woes, and the origin of sacrificial practices. Myths also are preserved in the Homeric Hymns, in fragments of epic poems of the Epic Cycle, in lyric poems, in the works of the tragedians of the fifth century BC, in writings of scholars and poets of the Hellenistic Age and in texts from the time of the Roman Empire by writers such as Plutarch and Pausanias.

Archaeological findings provide a principal source of detail about Greek mythology, with gods and heroes featured prominently in the decoration of many artifacts. Geometric designs on pottery of the eighth century BC depict scenes from the Trojan cycle as well as the adventures of Heracles. In the succeeding Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic periods, Homeric and various other mythological scenes appear, supplementing the existing literary evidence.

Greek mythology has exerted an extensive influence on the culture, the arts, and the literature of Western civilization and remains part of Western heritage and language. Poets and artists from ancient times to the present have derived inspiration from Greek mythology and have discovered contemporary significance and relevance in these mythological themes.
